Woodridge centre Jack Johnson started the scoring in this season-opener, local derby with a 7th minute penalty. Ipswich YM responded with an intercepted try from hooker Chad Hervey converted by Ben Coomber in the 15th minute. Ipswich YM looked the more experienced team, especially in the forwards while Woodbridge looked crowded in the three-quarters, fighting hard to get the ball out wide to their younger, faster players in space. In a busy first half Woodbridge flanker Tom Stokes put in a feisty run to score. Five minutes later YM intercepted again; full back James Taber snatching a long pass and scoring for Coomber to convert on half time.
The second half was tighter with both teams having to defend hard on their lines. Johnson pulled it back to 11-14 for the Warriors with another penalty but 5 mins after restart Ipswich number 8, Lee Kaselle was shoved over to score and Coomber added the conversion to make it 11-21.
