Great Seckford Shield/Woodfest 2015

Following the last three year’s successful tournaments, Woodbridge Rugby Club hosted this year’s tournament last Saturday 15 August supported by the O2 Touch programme, Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk Sport and Eastern Counties Rugby Football Union

This fun touch-rugby competition, originally conceived to get adults out playing sport at the weekend between seasons and played between Woodbridge businesses, has become a local institution. The 20 minute matches started at 10am and lasted until awards at about 6pm. This year the Woodbridge Cake Shop, no stranger to winning awards, entered a team to join the Angel, Ye Olde Bell & Steelyard, The Coach & Horses, Valkyries U18 girls, Ipswich YM Cobras, and a few teams of miscellaneous players calling themselves Ballistics, Touch Cup and Woodfest. All competed for the coveted shield.

Results were: –

Cup Final Winners – Woodbridge Rugby Club – Woodfest

Shield Final Winners: – Woodbridge Cake Shop

Wooden Spoon Winners: – Woodbridge Valkyries Mother Ruckers

Touch rugby is a shorter, fun version of rugby that is NOT full contact and is therefore suitable for mixed teams – from 16yrs and upwards. Games are six-a-side with unlimited substitutions and one female player must be on the pitch at all times.

The day ended with a new institution, the Woodfest Festival. Woodfest is an enjoyable wind-down from the day’s play where older players and spectators enjoyed silly games, the England v France match live from Twickenham and a DJ from 9:30pm.
