First Aid Training (EFAW Lvl 3)

First aid training is provided by the club for all club first aiders.

We’re required to have at least one emergency first aider pitch side for all training and matches.

The more first aiders we have the better so first aid provision doesn’t fall on the same few individuals each match/session.

All equipment including bags, supplies, hi-vis vests are provided.

You can use this valuable skill in your workplace and community.

In addition to the course, we also provide a specialist rugby injuries session.

To book your place email Caroline Wheeler-Rowe at rugbysafe@woodbridgerugby.net or via WhatsApp 07842 781035

Our Amazons

The Amazons team have been working hard this summer both on and off the pitch.

Not have they just been building in strength physically and in fitness-wise, they have also been growing in numbers too.  During the summer evening sessions, we are seeing more ladies and girls getting involved which is great news for the Women’s game and the club in general.

WRUFC are very proud of our Amazons, John and the team have been out there promoting Women’s and Girl’s rugby actively in the local area and at the Suffolk Show too, so they are a great asset to Suffolk Rugby in general.  We hope their efforts now reward them on the pitch as the season is nearly upon us!

We are also very excited to promote their page on our website, which is very much still in development. However, they have had some great photos taken following their recent photo shoot, so if you get a free moment, it would be well worth a quick look.  You’ll also be able to familiarise yourself with the key points of contacts too within the team.

Finally, our Amazons are very proactive on the social media front too, so if you’re not already following them on the likes of Instagram or Facebook, we suggest you look them up now and add them to keep up to date with the latest news.

Club Chaplain – Rev Canon Kevan McCormack

A casual conversation with Tim Johnson led to the idea that the club might benefit from appointing an honorary chaplain.  In my retirement from full time ministry in Woodbridge I am thrilled to respond.

The world of sport has become increasingly aware that the overall wellbeing of every person engaged in sport needs to consider more than just physical wellbeing.  Mental health issues, suffered by some famous names in sport, have made us all realise that every aspect of a person’s welfare and being needs to be properly addressed through appropriate channels of care.

Recognising that we all have a spiritual dimension in our makeup means that, as far as possible we need, as a club, to make sure we can support that dimension in our care for players, their families, supporters and staff.

My own feeling is that spiritual awareness should cut through religious institutions, and even faith choices, so everyone is encouraged to be themselves through their sport.  With other care givers in the club, a chaplain must be around for everyone; must offer, without judgement, a channel of support regardless of life choice or life style, so that the universal recognition of value in pastoral care is deeply supported in our local club.

I hope I can contribute to the all-embracing care the club works to provide.

Appointment of John Reynolds as Head of Women’s and Girls Rugby

🏉💙🚨🚨 Announcement 🚨🚨💙🏉

John Reynolds joins Woodbridge Rugby Club

Woodbridge Rugby Union football Club are delighted to announce, following a competitive recruitment process the appointment of John Reynolds as Head of Women’s and Girls Rugby.

Woodbridge RUFC is committed to developing and growing the female game and feel that through the appointment of John, the club will be seen, over time, as being “the club of choice” offering a successful pathway for girls from mini’s into women’s rugby.

John has an unrivalled track record in building successful pathways for players of all abilities and is excited by the plan he has produced and shared with the club.

John said, “I took a year out from rugby to look for a project and recharge the batteries. I have spent a lot of time watching women’s rugby at all levels over the last year and see this as a huge growth area that I feel I can help enhance and strengthen. I’m keen to help players develop their skills, qualifications and roles within the wider club and show girls coming through at mini and junior level that there is an exciting pathway at our club for them to travel. Having moved to Woodbridge a year or so ago, I feel very at home at the club and have been thoroughly impressed by the vision of Tim Johnson and the management team.”

Tim Johnson, Chairman said – “Woodbridge Rugby club is committed to providing a great community environment; where we provide rugby for all. The appointment of John to lead and develop our Women’s and Girls Rugby offering is truly an exciting time for the club. We believe strongly that the female game is going to be the largest growth area in the sport and we want to work with local schools to build and provide a truly community committed club. The committee are focused on executing our strategy and investing into the women’s game which is core and at the heart of “community rugby, for all”. Appointing John to lead this important area underpins this commitment.

John continued, “Key skills and Pre-Season sessions are all programmed in, and we are looking forward to the season ahead for the Amazons.”

John will be going into local schools to develop the Junior section from September, and we are keen to welcome girls from the age of 6 to the club on a Sunday once the new season begins. In the meantime, our Summer Touch sessions have started with good numbers, and we look forward to seeing as many faces as possible at the club over the summer.

If you would like to hear more about this or interested in joining Woodbridge please get in touch on rugby@woodbridgerugby.net or amazons@woodbridgerugby.net

Remember this week we have our ‘Inner Amazon’ session on the 14th June at 18:30, at Hatchley Barn, where all are welcome from Year 6 upwards.
