Seckford Shield 2016

The fifth Seckford Shield/Woodfest Touch rugby 7s tournament and Festival takes place on Saturday 20th August at Woodbridge RUFC.

Following the last four year’s successful tournaments, Woodbridge Rugby Club is to host this year’s tournament from 10:30am on Saturday 20 August at Hatchley Barn, Bromeswell IP12 2PP. It is supported by the O2 Touch programme, Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk Sport and Eastern Counties Rugby Football Union. The tournament also includes the Woodfest Festival of social activities which went so well in the last two years.

This fun touch-rugby competition played between local teams will last all day at the Club’s grounds, there will be refreshments available and visitors are welcome to pop in or stay all day. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a good way to introduce child spectators to the sport. The 20 minute matches kick off from 10:30 and last until the Tournament winner is announced at approximately 5:30pm. Previous winners include The Mariner’s Arms (twice) and the Club itself (twice). last year teams represented The Angel, Ye Olde Bell & Steelyard, Kings Head, Warwick Arms, China Whites, the Mariners, Coach & Horses, the Tea Hut and the Club’s Woodfest team.

There will be a BBQ, music, games and camping

Touch rugby is a shorter, fun version of rugby that is NOT full contact and is therefore suitable for mixed teams – from 14yrs and upwards. Games are seven-a-side with unlimited substitutions and at least one female player must be on the pitch at all times.

Woodfest is an enjoyable wind-down from the day’s play where older players and spectators can enjoy silly games and a DJ from 9:30pm.
