A Successful Night at the Races!

Thank you to everyone who attended the race night on Saturday, we feel it’s fair to say that for those who attended,  they certainly had an amazing night and it was great fun to be part of.

Jamie Smith, with support of Amy Bond & Tom Bond, did an amazing job of organising this event, probably a better job of most mainstream bookmakers…some of the bidding for the player ‘horses’ were completely overpriced but that’s the bookies for you….and beer…..

Over £1000 was raised for MND and the club, this is a phenomenal amount of generosity.

Our Race Sponsers were:

  • Drain Doctor
  • Amarinth
  • J.T.Few
  • Fat Boys Fitness
  • Labrys
  • Oliver Charles Developments
  • Bell & Steel Yard
  • Eco Concrete Ltd

The club are as always very grateful for the support given to these events.

Finally, thank you to Tracy & Nina for running the bar and keeping the horses well-watered!

We are committed to providing the highest possible quality of training provision and facilities at our club so that we can enable all our players to aspire to be the best they can be.

The Committee aims to build a successful club where we can achieve league success and be seen as a dominant force within our region, providing the community with a club to be proud of with the recognition it rightfully deserves.

To support this, we need to ensure our club is well run and commercially focused so we can continue to grow, develop and invest towards our mission. We have produced a survey below that looks at the following key areas:

  • All About Rugby
  • Our Facilities
  • Leadership, Membership & Strategy
  • Feedback

All members/players/volunteers and associates of the club should have received an email last week, so please check your inboxes.  Alternatively please visit the club house to fill in a manual copy or obtain a link from a club co-ordinator or coach who should have this also who we are sure would share this link with you.

The deadline for closure of the survey is Friday 3rd March 2023.  Once we’ve had the chance to review the feedback from the survey we will publish the results to our members, following up on actions or outcomes.

Mike Lubbock RIP

Mike Lubbock Club Founder

It is with great sadness that I must write to inform you that Mike Lubbock has peacefully passed away with his family around him in the early hours of Wednesday 11 January.

Mike and his wife Jill moved to Woodbridge in 1961 where the family embarked on a 47 year involvement with Woodbridge School. Mike was a proud Leicester Tiger scrum half playing on 96 occasions between 1955 and 1961.

Having retired from rugby Mike was involved with Suffolk, Eastern Counties and London Division as a coach and selector. In 1969 Mike was one of Woodbridge Rugby Club’s founding members helping to pull together local, like-minded individuals to form Woodbridge RUFC. In 2006 Mike was awarded the Torch Award presented by the Duchess of Wessex as national recognition for his work with rugby. In 2007 Mike received the Suffolk Sport Lifetime Achievement Award followed by an invitation to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party.

Mike was our first Club Captain and led the Club as President for 24 years. He remained so immensely proud of the success and growth of the Club, which has been built to provide a family friendly, community rugby club for future generations.

Mike’s family and friends are in our thoughts at this sad time.

On behalf of Woodbridge Rugby Club
Tim Johnson
Chairman
