What a fantastic day for a safe Return to Rugby. Mixed teams competed in the late summer sun in a 7’s tournament watched by a rugby-starved crowd in a safe, covid-aware environment.

Many thanks to the organisers for their efforts, referees, players, bar staff, Chef Noir and supporters for making this a great day

Juniors Return to Rugby

Juniors Return to Rugby

Woodbridge Rugby Club is opening up again this coming Sunday 6th September to all its minis and junior sections. Hard work and planning by many at the Club have ensured that we are able to open this Sunday to allow children access to the fields and enjoy rugby after nearly 7 months closed.

We would like to welcome you all back to the Club, and highlight that there will be some slight changes in training times

U6- U11s 9.30 – 11am
U12 – U16s 11.30 – 1pm.
This will rotate on a weekly basis.

Please do come and enjoy the opening of the Club, but be aware that there are some changes in entrances and exits, as well as strict social distancing rules be adhered to as per Government guidelines.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL ON SUNDAY

Adam Lubbock takes up New Coaching Coordinator role

Adam Lubbock

This is a high level appointment providing guidance and an overview rather than an operational role. Adam is the son of founder and Life President Mike Lubbock who preceded Adam as Head of Games at Woodbridge School.

In the very near future we will be seeking an audit of all coaches operating – with a keen emphasis on our fantastic Junior coaches to make sure we are:

  • Providing opportunities for our coaches to develop through courses from the RFU and mentoring from the club
  • Operating with a clear focus on meeting Safeguarding best practice
  • Continuing to build a common platform of coaching style that will aid the transition from Junior to Senior rugby
  • Delivering coaching that is consistent with the core values of the RFU.

To help deliver this it is intended that Adam along with Director of Rugby Simon Bennett will attend the club on a Sunday morning once a month. The intention is to give coaches an opportunity to talk directly with Adam prior to training commencing and then we will be about to offer advice “in the field”.

We will ensure that the date each month will allow us to be in attendance on alternate months for the Mini Section and the following month the Youth section. We hope that Chrissie Gordon will complete this team.

It will be a clear aim to try and take advantage of Laurence’s knowledge (and his team ) to guest on an occasional Sunday and look to garner support from Senior players .

Buy The Church Appeal

The Club is raising funds to buy the Baptist Church and adjacent land.

The space will enable us to: –

  • Provide more pitches for our large and growing Junior rugby squads
  • Allow our Wheeled Warriors to train at the Club
  • Have more room for festivals and fundraisers
  • Give all players indoor training and learning facilities

Please fundraise with your squad, make a personal or family donation for this
good cause…….
